The Database Specialist will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of Oracle and Linux based solutions and systems.
Primary Responsibilities for the Role
- Oracle Database Administration
- Administration and management of databases in DEV, QA, pre-prod & production environments.
- Provide technical expertise on the installation, setup, configuration of database servers, including infrastructure
- Pro-active monitoring of databases both from a performance and capacity management perspective.
- Performance tuning and optimization of database schema, indexes, stored procedures etc.
- Perform database maintenance activities such as backup/recovery, rebuilding and reorganizing indexes.
- Ensure that all database releases are properly assessed and measured from a functionality and performance perspective.
- Ensure that all database environments are up to date with the latest service packs, patches & security fixes.
- Setup of Standby and DR systems (Oracle DataGuard)
- Oracle Weblogic Administration
- Administration and management of Weblogic installation and managed servers in DEV, QA, pre-prod & production environments.
- Provide technical expertise on the installation, setup, configuration of Oracle Weblogic for Forms & Reports, ADF and Oracle Identify Manager
- Pro-active monitoring of Weblogic.
- Performance tuning and optimization of managed servers.
- Ensure that all database environments are up to date with the latest service packs, patches & security fixes.
- Linux Server Administration and support
- Installation, upgrades, and patching of linux environments
- Linux scripting
- Responsible for server backup and restore testing
- Server hardening and securing
- Ownership of Platform monitoring software
- Automation of complex technical actions.
- Take ownership and ensure high quality, timely delivery of database related projects on hand.
- Understand and implement platform and application auditing at different technology tiers.
- Compilation of technical documentation, standards, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with application developers and operations/support teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Provides technical direction to the technical team
- Compiles or reviews technical designs to meet the business and client requirements
- Client liaison for environment specification and design
- Carries out sufficient research and development to identify new trends and features that could be incorporated to enhance and improve business processes and productivity
- Liaises with the client to ensure all technical concerns are attended to in a professional and client service driven manner
- Suggests alternative technical solutions to meet customer requirements more efficiently and effectively
- Required to present at Technical and Product conferences
- Ensuring software licence compliance is maintained

Desired Skills, Experience and Qualities:
Education & Qualification
- Recognized tertiary qualification (BSc or similar)
- Certification in Oracle (OCP DBA)
- Certification in Linux
- CISSP or similar
Experience
- Min 5 years working experience as a Senior Oracle Database Administrator
- Min 5 years working experience in designing and implementing complex Oracle technical solutions
- Min 10 years working experience in implementing and maintaining Oracle database solutions
- Min 10 years working experience in implementing and maintaining Linux/Unix systems
- Min 5 years working experience in Oracle Weblogic (Forms & Reports and ADF)
- Experience implementing and configuring Oracle Identify Manager
- Experience implementing and configuring Oracle APEX and ORDS
- Experience in automating DBA functions
- Experience implementing and configuring platform monitoring tools
- Experienced in Cyber Security as it pertains to Oracle systems
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of Oracle database technologies
- Strong knowledge of SQL language and PL/SQL
- Strong knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems and environments
- Knowledge of Oracle Internet Application server and Web Logic server environments
- Knowledge of Apache
- Knowledge of Oracle RAC
- Working knowledge of networking (WAN, LAN, VPN, Security)
- Detailed and wide range technical knowledge across entire domain systems (Linux/Unix, Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server, Cloud platforms, monitoring tools, etc)
- Maintains high levels of understanding of product knowledge and business domain knowledge
